Aptitude Tests in University Admission

In Sri Lanka, certain university degree programs require students to pass an aptitude test in addition to achieving qualifying results in the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination. These tests are conducted to assess specific skills, talents, or subject knowledge relevant to the chosen course of study. Aptitude tests are commonly required for programs such as Architecture, Design, Performing Arts, Translation Studies, and Physical Education, among others.

Each university conducts its own aptitude tests according to the guidelines provided by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The tests usually evaluate areas like general knowledge, creativity, analytical thinking, or subject-specific abilities. Candidates must apply separately for these tests during the application period announced by respective universities.Passing the aptitude test is a mandatory requirement for selection to the relevant course, but it does not guarantee admission—final selection also depends on the Z-score and district quota system.
